Let your personality shine through at home by displaying beautiful art in creative ways that express your sense of style.   By strategically placing your art, you can create a theme that will set the tone for the entire room.

Here are some classic art display tips that can add flair to any living space:

  1. Pick the Right Frame. Frame selection gives you a chance to incorporate your own personal taste and style.   Framing not only greatly enhances the visual appeal of your print but also protects it for years of enjoyment. Choose frames that complement, yet don't overpower the art piece or your décor.
  2. Balance Large with Small. Grouping small frames together can help offset the heaviness of a large wall space.
  3. Hang an Art Shelf.  Popular art shelves are a great way to add interest and take up very little space.   Artwork can be hung on the wall over the shelf as well as set onto the shelf with other decorative objects.
  4. Experiment with Spacing Between Artwork.  The space between each piece creates rhythm and affects the way each piece relates to the next. For an open, airy effect that allows each piece be appreciated on its own, leave more space between frames. For a more dramatic look that highlights the relationship between each piece, leave less space. Whichever approach you choose, leave equal spacing between each piece for an overall harmonious look.
  5. Try Out Symmetry and Repetition. Play with different combinations of both until you find the combination most pleasing to your eye. For example, line up three frames all the same size, side by side--or place two smaller frames on either side of a large one.
  6. The Drama of Lighting .   Illuminating artwork sets it apart as a focal point while adding interest and drama.   Track lighting and mounted spotlights can be installed over the artwork, but require installation by a professional electrician. An easy, less costly option is using plug-in floor spotlights, which can be purchased at your local hardware store and placed on the floor below the artwork for dramatic 'up lighting'.
  7. Choose a Them. A theme or color scheme can be used to link each art piece. An eclectic series of images in multiple sizes, for example, can still look unified if they're all in the same color tones or have matching or similar frames.
  8. Color Chec. Vibrant colors bring excitement to a room while neutral colors are more calming. Which do you prefer?   Let your mood determine which direction you want to go in your space.
  9. Horizontal or Vertical.  Home decorators sometimes overlook the use of line focus, yet proper use of lines can set the mood in a room. Hanging art in horizontal lines tend to elongate, widen and emphasize a casual decorating scheme. Vertical lines tend to be more formal, add to the illusion of height, and add a touch of refined elegance. Hanging art on a diagonal line can ad fun, unexpected excitement to any room.
  10. Hang Odd Numbers of Art.  Hanging an odd number of frames creates the most pleasing effect in a display.   Place central pieces at eye level or slightly above on the wall, then expand your display outward from there.
  11. Be Sure to Hang Securely. Your art pieces must be hung securely with mounting or hanging hardware that is appropriate for the weight of the artwork. If in doubt about hardware or installation, be sure to ask for advice at the hardware store or from an art/framing professional .

With these simple tips, you are on your way to creating beautiful art displays in your home. Whether you are just beginning your art collection or are a long time collector, be sure to include art from The EBONY Collection--the perfect complement or focal point for any art display!
