EBONY Magazine Appoints Nationally Syndicated Columnist Harriette Cole
Chicago - Jan. 7, 2007 - Harriette Cole, distinguished author, syndicated columnist, editor and life coach, has been named creative director for EBONY magazine. In this new position, Cole will be based in New York City and responsible for fashion, style, relationships and lifestyles coverage. She will also head the magazine´s art department and lead the overall design, look and feel of EBONY. Cole has an exceptional record of accomplishments throughout her 20 years of experience in the journalism and fashion industries. She is a nationally syndicated columnist of "Sense and Sensitivity," a lifestyles column targeting diverse audiences. Cole is also an accomplished author of several books including How to Be: A Guide to Living with Grace and Integrity as well as the preeminent African-American Wedding Planner, Jumping the Broom and Vows. In her work as a fashion, lifestyles and etiquette expert, Cole is a recurring guest on The Today Show and has made several appearances on The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Rachael Ray Show and The Hallmark Channel´s New Morning Show . She was formerly the host of PULSE , a magazine format talk show on Take Five, XM 155 Satellite Radio. Bryan Monroe, vice president and editorial director of EBONY and JET magazines, recruited Cole -- they worked together on the book Songs of My People -- and said she brings the energy and profile to help take EBONY into the 21 st century. "Harriette´s knowledge and experience in the fashion and entertainment industries will bring even greater depth to EBONY," said Monroe. "She is creative, passionate and has a deep commitment to journalism and the African-American community. We are fortunate to have her as part of our leadership team." Cole also served as editorial director for Uptown, a lifestyle magazine for the urban elite. She was also fashion director for Essence magazine. As president and creative director of Harriette Cole Productions, she tailored training workshops for Kraft Foods, Sara Lee Corporation, National Urban League and NAACP. In addition, Cole supported the development of artists for Universal Records, J Records, Motown and Def Jam and worked with entertainers including Queen Latifah, JoJo, Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige, Erykah Badu, Tamar and Carl Thomas. Johnson Publishing Company, Inc., founded in 1942 by the late media pioneer John H. Johnson, is the world´s largest African-American-owned and -operated publishing company.
