Senior Systems Administrator
Johnson Publishing Company, Inc. (JPC) operates established businesses in publishing, cosmetics, television production and fashion. JPC brands, which include EBONY and JET magazines and Fashion Fair Cosmetics, are household names and trusted sources to African-Americans around the globe. We are looking for an energetic, self-motivated senior systems administrator to join the JPC IT department as it expands to support new initiatives.
This Chicago-based role will be responsible for supporting internal clients and handling issues related to servers, networks, backend applications and other IT related infrastructure. The ideal candidate for this position will have 5+ years experience in systems administration and level II help desk support in a production environment with 7X24 uptime requirements, and a demonstrated ability to identify and streamline routine technical support activities. The candidate must have excellent communication skills and be able to effectively communicate with non-technical users.
Responsibilities
- Support and maintenance of MS Windows 2000/2003 servers
- Active Directory administration
- Exchange administration
- Provide level II help desk support
- Systems management, performance monitoring and benchmarking of existing IT infrastructure
- Focus on continual improvement of IT environment
- Build out additional server infrastructure as needed (rack, cable, install, test, and deploy)
- Availability for 24/7 support
Job Requirements
- MCSE or equivalent experience required. 5-7 years of experience as network or systems Administrator in a production environment with 7x24 uptime requirements. Bachelor's degree or equivalent preferred.
Required Skills
- Expert knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP
- Ability to maintain Active Directory infrastructures and develop processes for managing Active Directory clients
- Understanding of system monitoring solutions (Lithium, Cacti, Spectrum, Netcool, etc..)
- Strong multitasking abilities and problem solving skills a must
- Strong hands on experience supporting Exchange (2003 or 2007)
- Strong experience with Symantec BackupExec.
- Experience in building or participating in Disaster Recovery procedures for all production systems
- Experience supporting SANs
- Effective and professional work ethics and habits
- The ability to work well under pressure
- Must have a strong emphasis on following through with commitments, communicating timely status to customers, assessing customer satisfaction, and achieving results
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills for technical and non-technical audiences
- Shell scripting
- Experience with network security administration
Desired Skills
- Experience with MAC servers
- Experience with open source solutions (Linux/Apache/Php/MySQL)
- Experience with <insert SPAM vendor> Spam filtering.
- Any of the following certifications - MCSE, CISSP
- Ability to lead complex IT projects and interface with other departments as needed
